El papa Francisco, sobre Javier Milei: “En campaña se dicen cosas ‘en broma’ para crear un poco de atención, pero después caen solas”
El papa Francisco buscó minimizar la polémica con el flamante presidente Javier Milei, quien le había lanzado durante su época de panelista televisivo duras palabras y descalificaciones, y consideró que que una cosa es lo que dice un político en campaña y otra su forma de gobernar
"En la campaña electoral se dicen cosas ‘en broma’. Se dicen seriamente, pero son provisorias, se usan para crear un poco de atención, pero después caen solas", expresó el sumo pontífice, acompañando con gesticulación de manos las comillas para decir "en broma".
En ese sentido, insistió en una entrevista con N+: "Hay que distinguir mucho entre lo que dice un político en la campaña electoral y lo que realmente va a hacer después, porque después viene el momento de lo concreto, las decisiones".
Al ser consultado respecto de si aclaró el tema con el mandatario libertario y si fue invitado a la Argentina, respondió de manera esquiva: "Yo le hago fe siempre a los políticos. Lo dijo un papa anterior: es la forma más elevada de la caridad. El amor al pueblo, político, a la polis. Lamentablemente los malos políticos la transforman en un negocio. Con cuánto llegaste o con cuánto te vas. Y la política no es eso".
La polémica comenzó luego de que Milei se refiriera al papa Francisco como "el maligno en la Tierra que ocupa el trono de la casa de Dios", así como también lo llamó "nefasto" e "imbécil" y lo criticó por "impulsar el comunismo".

El Presidente electo confesó que el sumo pontífice se mostró interesado en las políticas que tiene preparadas para su Ministerio de Capital Humano.
Sin embargo, trató de bajar el tono de la confrontación durante la última parte de la campaña electoral. Incluso mandó a pedirle disculpas, según comentó en el debate presidencial.
Tras su victoria electoral, el economista recibió una llamada telefónica de Bergoglio. "Llamó para felicitarme, valoró mi coraje en esta pelea y me dijo 'coraje y sabiduría'. Le dije 'coraje tengo y en la sabiduría estoy trabajando'", contó.
Además, reveló que lo invitó a la Argentina: "Le dije que sería recibido con todos los honores de un jefe de Estado y de jefe espiritual de los argentinos, porque el catolicismo es la religión mayoritaria en Argentina", dijo.

En una entrevista con el periodista estadounidense Tucker Carlson, el candidato libertario volvió a lanzar duras críticas contra Francisco.
Francisco tiene planeado viajar a la Argentina durante 2024, un destino al que no visitó nunca en sus once años de papado a pesar de haber viajado en varias ocasiones al continente. Según habían dicho fuentes cercanas al Papa, el mismo no dependía "de quien gane las elecciones"
